How it Works

Ozone, the perfect odor treatment for cars

Ozone (O₃) is one of the most powerful natural oxidizers we can safely put to work in a vehicle. When introduced into your car, ozone molecules react with and break apart the organic compounds that cause lingering odors - like smoke, mildew, or food spills - rather than just masking them. This same process has been relied on for decades in hospitals, hotels, and water treatment facilities to sanitize and refresh environments. Today, it’s a go-to solution for auto detailers and dealerships worldwide, restoring interiors to a neutral, clean state without perfumes or heavy chemicals. Whether it’s a musty cabin filter, a smoker’s car, or the aftermath of spilled coffee, ozone treatment has proven itself time and again as the cleanest way to hit reset on your vehicle’s air.

Frequently asked questions

How's the science work?
  • Odors = molecules. Most bad smells come from volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and sulfur/nitrogen compounds that stick to soft surfaces (headliner, seats, carpets) and plastics.
  • Ozone = oxidizer. Ozone “donates” its extra oxygen atom to reactive sites on those odor molecules (often carbon–carbon double bonds). Chemists call one of these reactions ozonolysis — ozone splits those bonds and turns smelly compounds into smaller, far less smelly ones (like aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids), which then off-gas and vent out.
  • Why it reaches deep. Because it’s a gas, ozone diffuses into fibers, foam, ducting, and crevices sprays can’t reach, so it can neutralize odors at their source rather than masking them. This is why ozone has long been used in facilities and water treatment as a sanitizing/refresh step.
Is it safe?

Using ozone correctly matters. Ozone is not for occupied spaces: high concentrations can irritate airways and worsen asthma if people or pets are present. We run treatments with the vehicle unoccupied and then vent and verify safe ambient levels before hand-off — matching the spirit of health guidance and exposure limits.

  • Monitoring: We continuously monitor ozone levels during the process and perform a meter-verified “clear” before you drive.
  • Ventilation & air-out: After the oxidation step, we purge the cabin so what you notice is a brief “crisp, after-a-thunderstorm” smell that dissipates.
  • Why the caution: Public-health agencies warn against using ozone in occupied rooms and note that low, “always-on” consumer devices either don’t work on pollutants at safe levels or can create by-products. Our method is the opposite: short, high-efficacy treatment in an empty, sealed vehicle, followed by full ventilation and clearance. Environmental Protection Agency
What should I expect from a treatment?

Seal & prep the cabin; remove obvious odor sources if present.
Generate ozone at a calculated output for your vehicle size and odor type, with live readings.
Dwell time lets ozone react with embedded odor molecules and residues in textiles and HVAC pathways.
Purge & verify: we vent the vehicle and confirm safe ambient ozone (at or below typical background, well under OSHA’s 0.1 ppm 8-hr limit for workplaces). OSHA

What is ozone great for? (and what it isn't)

Great for: Smoke smell (tobacco, wildfire), mildew/mustiness, food & drink spills, pet odors, “mystery funk” from previous owners — especially when the source is embedded in fabrics or ducting.
Not a magic wand: If there’s an active source (e.g., damp padding, hidden mold growth, new spill residue), we’ll recommend removal/drying first so the ozone step can finish the job. Also, the goal is odor neutralization, not adding fragrance... we don’t use perfumes.

Why choose Sooo Fresh?
  • Scientific, meter-verified process - not guesswork.
  • Safety-first protocol: unoccupied treatment, full air-out, documented clearance.
  • Mobile convenience: we come to you across Seminole, Orange, and Volusia counties.
  • Honest results: real remediation, not scent-masking.

If you want your car to smell like nothing (which is the best smell), book an O₃ Reset and let the chemistry do the cleaning.
